I Highly Recommend Sam Roberts.

I highly recommend Sam Roberts.

It was about 3 years ago when I discovered Sam Roberts. At first, quite frankily, I didn’t like him. I used to see his video for “Brother Down” and it was (apparently) an alternate and horrible mix from the record “We Were Born in a Flame”.

It was May 9th 2003 exactly that I was first taken by him. I only remember that because I had just come home from a Pete Yorn concert. Sam was playing “Brother Down” on Jay Leno, and the song sounded ‘really familar’ but I couldn’t place it. Oddly I get a Rolling Stone newsletter in my email box every day to tell me what bands are on tv that day, and there it was listed….Sam Roberts. I couldn’t BELIEVE it. Later that nite I went to work and my boss brought me to the back room and handed me a promo cd that just arrived. It was Sam Roberts. He gave it to me and told me ‘I would probably love it’.

Dean was right. I DID.

Since then i’ve been a pretty big Sam Roberts fan, and the new record “Chemical City” means so much to me on a personal level. Last month….in all seriousness on May 9th, was the first time I saw Sam live at the Mercury Lounge in New York City. Amazing to say the least. I am seeing him next week as well. I can’t wait.

In honor of Sam….

SLOAN! (aka SLOOOOANNNNNN!)

I just got some very exciting news!!! About the best thing ever to come from Canada….SLOAN!

From Sloanmusic.com

"As you may have noticed above, tour dates are being amassed. Look for a few more festival dates this summer, followed by real touring in the fall/winter/spring/next summer. The band are working away on the new record, current reports suggest a September release.

Look to criticize the new single in July.

Keep checking back, as we are about to start an onslaught of online content. Although, to be honest, it will mainly consist of Chris “reading” the newspaper, and Andrew “smoking”."

Wow! I really can't wait to hear the new record! We haven't had a record of new material since 2003's "Action Pact" *or 2004 if you waited for the US release date almost a year later…me…I got both*

I also can't wait for the tour! Its been almost a year since I saw them last *and for the 5th time*. I would post my pictures of me and the Sloan boys but I look kind of psychotic in them…..it was like "SHIT!I'M MEETING SLOAN!!!!!" And that is exactly what it was. I think they are coming to NY as early as late August and then back for more in the next year!

If you haven't heard Sloan, you are missing out in a big way.

The Decemberists. The joy!

It has been recently announced that the Decemberists will release their new record on October 3rd! It will be their first record on Capitol. I am really excited about this for I think the Decemberists are one of the greatest bands of all time. The album will be called The Crane Wife.  Apparently they have 20 songs down and some of them are clocking in at 10 minutes long. The band said in their mailing list that its' "Undoubtedly the best thing we’ve done to date." I can't even imagine how they can top themselves but they always do!

New Bishop Allen Today….AGAIN!

Today, Bishop Allen has released their new EP titled “MAY”. Of course!
It goes along in their series of ‘Releasing an EP a month”. I agree that each and every one gets better (and it already started out pretty damn great…there are no bad Bishop Allen songs really) Darbie adds some female vocals to the mix, which is a pretty nice surprise! Its always nice to end the last day of the month with a Bishop Allen record.

I’m finding it hard to keep up though, but 5 bucks is a damn good price. My Favorite part though is that they are playing Piano’s in NYC the end of every month. YAY!
